Top Honours in Calgary


Four members of the Lethbridge Kyodokan Judo Club picked up top honours at the Rocky Mountain Invitational Judo Tournament in Calgary this past weekend. Fighting in Junior Boys -34 kg, Matt S. dominated this category and was named top Junior Boy. Dean C. (Juvenile Men -66 kg) topped the podium and also earned top Juvenile Men’s honors. Hope L. was chosen as the top IJF Woman after winning the IJF Women’s -63 kg division. Hiro Y. finished the day with a gold medal in Senior Men’s Brown and Black belt -81 kg division and was recognized as the outstanding brown/black belt athlete of the day.
The tournament was the third and final selection tournament of the year for Team Alberta. Several club members have now qualified to represent Alberta at the Canadian Junior National Championships to be held in Moncton, New Brunswick this summer.
