2008 Kagami Biraki / Family Day
This year's Family Day was held in the dojo on January 7, 2008. Known as Kagami Biraki, which means polishing of the mirror, this event is a time to celebrate last year's accomplishments as well as to set goals for personal improvement in the new year. As the mirror would suggest, it is a time for reflection, and also for judoka to demonstrate their Judo skill to family and friends.
Tim R. was awarded the Spic and Span Award for proficiency in Judo, while Joey P. picked up the Tower of Diamonds Sportsmanship Award. Mr. and Mrs. Senda presented 8 judoka with Judo scholarships. Demonstrations included judoka of all ages and abilities from pre-beginners, beginners, juniors, juveniles to seniors. Kata demonstrations included ladies self defense, ju no kata, nage no kata, and katame no kata. The latest promotions were as follows: Shodan (1st degree black belt) Brett C., Dean C., Kyle N., Andrew S.; Nidan (2nd degree black belt) Karol B., Tomasz B.; Sandan (3rd degree black belt) Ben K., Greg S.; Color belt promotions Gokyu (yellow belt) Frank N., Charles G., Alex V., Brendan J., Kyle L.; Yonkyu (orange belt) Colin B., Kevin W., Dawson M., Austin M., Kima H., Shawny J.; Sankyu ( green belt) Brayden G., Josef P., Matt S., Eli D., Theo L.; Nikyu ( blue belt) Scott A.; Ikkyu ( Brown Belt) Brynley T., Jennifer P., Tim R., Luke B., Racquel A., Eric A..
